Senior Material Characterization Scientist - San Diego, CA
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for GaN related materials characterization, statistical data analysis and failure analysis to support assigned projects, work closely with MOCVD grower and device processing engineer to have best design structure optimization.
  • Develop complex test programs as needed to evaluate more details of epi materials, manage test activities and test results, including documentation of results.
  • Train junior engineer, technician and operator to operate test equipment and to do simple analysis, troubleshoot and maintain all characterization equipment.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D (with 3+ years of hands on experience
    or Master degree (with 5+ years of hands on experience) in Physics, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields in opto-electronics.
  • Hands on experience in GaN/InGaN or GaN/AlGaN material system using MOCVD/MBE on LED's, Lasers or GaN power devices.
  • Good skills in written & verbal technical reports/presentations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Solid understanding of materials, physics, electrical and optical properties, and fabrication technology of semiconductors GaN material systems.
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive experience in structural, optical and electrical characterization of epi materials and Optoelectronics materials / devices (PL, EL, CL, I-V, X-Ray Diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy, Hall Measurements, SEM, AFM), and in statistical data analysis and failure analysis.
  • Hands on experience in LabView, Visual Basic, Excel Macros, and Simulation programs.
  • Some experience in epitaxial growth of GaN materials using MOCVD or MBE.
  • Good problem solving and knowledge of experimental methods
  • Planning & organization / able to drive and execute projects/work independently
  • Ability to work well within a team or group environment / Collaboration / teamwork
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-driven, innovative, proactive attitude with careful attention to detail.
