Senior Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer

Senior Optical DSP Algorithm Engineer (opening #1)
Ottawa or Vancouver – Canada

Key Responsibilities
• Analyze performance under various impairments such as noise, chromatic dispersion, polarization effects, and hardware non-idealities.
• Design and optimize DSP blocks used in optical transceivers, including adaptive equalization, timing recovery, carrier phase recovery, polarization demultiplexing, and nonlinear compensation.
• Develop bit-accurate and cycle-accurate models to support ASIC implementation.
• Develop system-level simulation models of optical communication links and evaluate DSP algorithm performance under realistic channel conditions.
• Document design details and collaborate with ASIC, firmware, and verification teams to ensure reliable implementation in silicon.
• Research, develop, and evaluate digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for high-speed optical communication systems.
• Verify and optimize algorithm performance through floating-point and fixed-point simulations.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
• 5+ years of industry experience in optical communications or related fields.
• Experience in modeling communication systems.
• Experience modeling optical components and electrical frontends of optical transceivers.
• Experience with DSP algorithms for optical communication systems.
• Experience with version control systems, specifically GitHub.
• Familiarity with Forward Error Correction (FEC) schemes used in communication systems.
• Familiarity with Verilog or VHDL is a plus.
• Programming experience in C/C++, Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Strong background in digital signal processing and digital communications.
• Team player with a mindset focused on the successful delivery of the first product.

Senior Optical DSP Systems Engineer (opening #2)
Ottawa or Vancouver – Canada

Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with DSP and ASIC teams to evaluate how frontend impairments affect DSP algorithm performance.
• Develop and maintain high-fidelity floating-point models of system components and communication links.
• Develop simulation frameworks to analyze end-to-end optical communication system performance.
• Develop system-level models of fiber-optic communication links, including electrical frontends, optical components, and fiber channel effects.
• Document modeling assumptions, results, and performance analysis.
• Evaluate the impact of hardware non-idealities and impairments such as bandwidth limitations, noise, nonlinearities, and quantization effects.
• Model and simulate RF and analog electrical frontends, including DACs, ADCs, drivers, TIAs, and other analog components used in optical transceivers.
• Model optical components and subsystems, including modulators, photodetectors, lasers, and optical amplifiers.
• Perform optical link budget analysis and simulation to evaluate system margins and performance limits.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience in optical communications or related fields.
• Experience modeling analog/RF frontends, including DAC/ADC, drivers, modulators, TIAs, and photodetectors.
• Experience modeling electrical and optical components of optical transceivers.
• Experience performing optical link budget analysis and system-level performance simulations.
• Experience with version control systems, specifically GitHub.
• Familiarity with digital signal processing for communication systems.
• Familiarity with Forward Error Correction (FEC) concepts is a plus.
• Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar simulation environments.
• Strong analytical and system-level thinking skills.
• Strong background in fiber-optic communication systems.
• Team player with a mindset focused on the successful delivery of the first product.

Senior DSP / Forward Error Correction (FEC) Algorithm Engineer (opening #3)
Ottawa or Vancouver – Canada

Key Responsibilities
• Analyze performance trade-offs including coding gain, latency, throughput, and implementation complexity.
• Collaborate closely with DSP, ASIC, firmware, and verification teams to ensure efficient hardware implementation.
• Design and optimize soft-decision Forward Error Correction (FEC) algorithms suitable for high-throughput optical modem implementations.
• Develop and evaluate coding schemes such as LDPC, staircase codes, or related high-performance Forward Error Correction (FEC) architectures.
• Develop floating-point and fixed-point simulation models for algorithm verification.
• Document algorithm design and simulation results.
• Implement bit-accurate and cycle-accurate models supporting ASIC implementation.
• Model and simulate Forward Error Correction (FEC) performance in optical communication systems, including interaction with DSP blocks and channel impairments.
• Research, develop, and evaluate Forward Error Correction (FEC) schemes for high-speed optical communication systems.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience in optical communications or related fields.
• Experience evaluating coding gain, BER performance, and decoder complexity.
• Experience in modeling communication systems.
• Experience with Forward Error Correction (FEC) schemes for communication systems, particularly soft-decision Forward Error Correction (FEC).
• Experience with version control systems, specifically GitHub.
• Familiarity with DSP algorithms for communication systems.
• Familiarity with hardware implementation considerations and languages such as Verilog or VHDL is a plus.
• Familiarity with LDPC, staircase codes, product codes, or related modern Forward Error Correction (FEC) techniques.
• Programming experience in C/C++, Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Strong background in coding theory and error correction algorithms.
